Okay folks, just a heads up that I'll shortly be pulling the plug on this forum. A draft version of the new SAOC (Central) website will shortly be going live, and it will include a brand new forum. I hope to have the new forum up within a week of the main site going live, so please be patient. I'm still learning how... more

Gents, Might be a good idea to pause for a few moments today. It was 50 years ago on this date (06 April 1963) that Thresher went down with all hands. Go to http://www.dvidshub.net/webcast/2935 to watch the ceremony from Portsmouth N.H. at 1 PM EDT Resurgam as she remains on Eternal Patrol Buster

Boats - Any and all pictures welcome, but especially Grilse, Rainbow, and the Oberons. I fully agree with "Keeps". Working maintenance in dry dock or up on the Slips in winter is a miserable job. The best place to do it is at the Norwegian sub. base at Haakonvern! All the barracks floors has a sauna.

Have they got heat on the boat? Spent a winter on the Dartmouth slips on Crusader and damn near froze to death--best part was the cold congealed meals sent over from Stad. Slept in hammocks and would wake up with an inch of frost around head.Couldn't even keep fire hoses running overnight as they would freeze.

I know that the Navy has always been known as 'The Silent Service' but I think that we could do with a bit more traffic on the "Forum". There must be lots of Dit's that hav'nt been told lately!

The only side effect from eating Fish Broth is that it makes you want to talk to Politicians.

smells a little fishy to me...

Just home from Ottawa. While there I heard that Canada's submarines will in future be fuelled with "Fish Broth" as made on an island in the Ottawa river. Both cheap and Green!
