Combi boiler - Sizing hot water pipeworkmarkos, Fri Oct 24 22:03
Assuming, as in most cases, a combi boiler has a 15mm cold inlet and a 15mm hot outlet and is supplying a bath, basin, shower and kitchen - is there any advantage in upsizing the HW pipe work to 22mm (or greater) ? Will this increase the flow rate at the individual appliance outlets or not ? Your opinions would be... more

Can you suggest a good book to help me with system optimisation and flow balancing including deciding best output setting of oil boiler and best temps to use for condensing and optimum efficiency. ie, properly commissioning the system.

Combining wood boiler with conventional oil boilerMike Rivington, Thu Aug 7 15:29
I have got a wood burner cooker with boiler (rated for 12 max radiators) that I would like to plumb into the existing radiator system that is currently run off an oil fired boiler (which also does the hot water storage). I planned on putting a thermostatically controlled pump from the wood boiler and then connecting... more

We're having a loft conversion to our three bedroom terraced house, to add a fourth bedroom and third bathroom. Our current boiler will need to be replaced but I've also been recommended a Mega Flow system as well. Do I need this? I'm worried that with 2 showers in use at the same time a conventional condensing boiler ... more

Boiler SizingTony Glazier, Fri May 23 10:36
The heat loss calculations are "correct" and you should use the appropriate power boiler if its to be a heat only and you have a hot water cylinder. Within the calculations you should have added 2kW for water heating. If its to be a combi boiler then the boiler is rated for hot water delivery. Most can be range... more

Boiler sizingGraham Welford, Sat May 17 21:41
I have used the boiler sizing calculator on this website and another by BRE and both give similar answers of 11-13kW. The house is an average 4 bed detached and so I would expect the boiler required to be say a bit less than half way up the domestic range from suppliers, but 13kW is riht at the bottom of the range of... more

Diverter valvegraham rogers, Sun Apr 27 09:53
Domestic pumped system, problem is that when water is on only certain radiators are producing heat. The Drayton mid control valve is working in that the remote switch is changing across from heating to water. Could it be that the valve is not seating on change over?

Advice on Heat Loss CalculatorChris Baverstock, Sun Mar 30 21:42
Hello, I am a consumer in the process of sizing radiators for my property. It is a bungalow with some unusual features such as very large windows and cedar shingles on the roof. Which is the best heat loss calculator on the market to use in these circumstances? I know there are several produced by radiator... more
