I do not feed my dog any food from grocery store. He only gets holistic food that has no by-products and most importantly NO GRAINS or preservatives. Lots of dogs have allergies to grains especially corn. Rice is an exception. The food I'm currently using is Wellness Core which is a protein-focused food though they... more

Nico turns 5 today and will get his favorite canned food for dinner tonight. He's a good boy and great joy.

barkingHeather, Fri Dec 5 21:29
I got my sheltie when he was 6 mos old. At first Tippy never barked and I was concerned. Once Tippy got used to everything he started barking, and once he starts he don't stop. Tippy mostly barks at my 8 yr old daughter. Especially if she is swinging or just running around the house. Tippy also barks if I have... more

Food...again?!Ashley, Fri Mar 13 09:43
I know everyone always asks about food here, but i have another food questions...for ANYONE! I have a tri rescue sheltie named Maddie. She is about 2 years old. She is a food hound, anything she can get she eats and eats (i assume this is because of her past). I have had so many problems with her. I believe that she... more

Shelties and their peopleTamara, Thu Mar 12 22:07
Do your shelties follow you around the house and keep an eye on you? Nico is always in eyesight of either me or my husband. When we're in different rooms, he'll spend a few minutes laying near and then switch to the other room to give equal time to each of us.

leash trainingHeather, Fri Dec 5 21:37
Everytime I put a leash on my sheltie he acts as if he was scared. The few times I did put a leash on him to walk him he pulled back. I even would leave the leash on him hoping he would get used to it, but he would have this pathetic look on his face and just moop around. Is there anyway I can get my dog used to the... more

Re: Best food to feed a sheltie?Anonymous, Tue Nov 18 01:57
We feed our pup the regular puppy food you find in pet stores, on top of that we add some of our own food. It is better to feed you puppy a combination or puppy food (since it has all necessary proteins and vitamins for growth) as well as human food, I say this because human food doesn't have the added chemicals and... more

Small SheltiesJosie, Wed Oct 8 18:02
I have a Sheltie pup from a great breeder, but she's definately not going to make the standard. She's 17 weeks, 7 lbs, 11 inches at the shoulder. The whole litter was small (Chloe was the runt) but the dam's last litter the pups were all large. Should I expect health problems with my little girl since she's so petite? ... more

recipe for dog foodGayle, Tue Jul 22 12:45
Could you please share your recipe? My 6 mo Sheltie pup, Dewey, has been to the vet for inflammation of the tummy and I have been feeding him homemade chicken and brown rice since, but it's time to transition him back to a regular diet and I don't want to give him commercial food but I don't have all the info I need... more

Wormsdawn2, Thu Jul 3 09:24
I'm new here and have a question about worms. It is now July here in Mn. and our 2 yr. old sheltie has not received any heartworm medication. My question is, is it too late for her to get it and also how do you know if your dog has worms? She drags her butt alot and she also sort of rocks back and forth on her butt... more

Time for heartwormTamara, Tue May 6 10:49
It's that time of the year when mosquitoes start making an appearance and people need to make sure that they are giving heartworm preventative.

Fleas, Ticks, HeartwormTamara, Sat Mar 15 10:36
It's get toward that time of year when all the nasties come out. Make sure to have your dog heartworm tested and start appropriate preventative. It's also time to get Frontline, Advantix, Advantage for flea & ticks.

Oh yea, one more question.Ashley, Thu Aug 9 11:05
I have put Roxi on California Natural...she seems to like it much better than anything else i have tried. The Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lover Soul did not go over well with her. She was on it for about 2 months and she constantly had runny stools and had to got potty about 4 times a day. Has anyone head anything... more

Ears, Coloring, and PuppiesAshley, Thu Aug 9 10:53
Roxi is 9 months old, she will be 10 months on the 21 of this months. She is beautiful, except for her ears, they stand straight up. I ran into her breeder and she told me I needed to work on her ears. She told me to use gum, but I have read somewhere that it is pointless to try and fix their ears after they are a... more

PuppyPattie, Mon Jun 11 19:26
Hi, We got my sheltie at 7 1/2 weeks from a breeder who raises them for show. Her name is Tala and she is a blue merle, with black little spots on her face (looks like freckles!) She is adorable and really, really smart! We live in an apt and crate train her. But she is moving up gradually and at night she now sleeps... more

What's your puppy's name, Pattie? What color is she? Tell us more. I love to hear about a new baby! I've been making Max's food and bisquits since February, and he's never been happier, shinier, or had cleaner teeth. ( Don't worry Tamara - I did a lot of research about dog nutrition and also have consulted with his... more
