Iíve had a good experience in English 1100. First, Mr. Bates sarcasm was some of the funniest things I would hear throughout some of my day. I enjoyed coming to class and being able to actually interact with a professor and get great HONEST feedback. As the semester continued I got more comfortable in class. There was ... more
    English Online Assignment 11 - Brooke Starace, Fri Nov 18, 2011 11:42am
Surprisingly, I have kind of enjoyed my English 1100 class. At the beginning of the semester I was unsure of how I would do in the class. After hearing about how papers and assignments were graded, I was worried there was a chance I might fail the class. English is my worst subject, so I figured that I would not do... more

Erin Schwartz My experience in English 1100 has been a good experience. This class is different than any other English class that I have taken before, mostly because of the teacher and the way the class is taught. This class is more class discussions and interactive than other English classes I have had before. In... more

Since you should have a topic by now and have begun your research (in theory, at least), what resources are you using for your research? What sources have been most helpful? What have been least helpful? How has preparing for this paper been different than others?

The topic I ended up choosing is mountaintop mining and how it affects local communities. I am glad I choose this topic, because there is a lot of information available about this controversy. We discussed this topic in my geography class, so I already know some background information and have been to some resourceful ... more

I believe I will stick with more funding for educational programs to help alleviate illiteracy throughout America since my idea of college athletes getting paid wasnít good enough. For my research process Iíve just been browsing the internet looking at many articles, videos and other informative websites with... more

What topic(s) are you considering for the argument paper? What side of the argument do you intend to argue? What will your main points be?
  • Online Discussion 9 - Brooke Starace, Fri Nov 4, 2011 1:43pm
So far, there are two topics I have been thinking about doing for the argumentative paper. The first topic would be the effects of tanning beds on the body. When writing about this topic, I would be more negative towards the use of tanning beds. I would discuss the danger of the intensity of U.V rays in tanning beds... more
No Subject - Aaron Key, Fri Nov 4, 2011 11:40am
Argument papers have never been my strength, but that is not because they are hard to write, it is because it is hard to choose a topic. I am very indecisive most the time and have trouble making decisions so when it comes to writing a four-page paper; I have trouble deciding what the topic is going to be. A couple... more

Now that you have completed the Boyle paper, what was the greatest challenge about the paper for you? What did you find least challenging about it? How well do you think your analysis went?
  • 10/28 discussion - Delia McCaul, Fri Oct 28, 2011 4:45pm
While writing my Boyle paper I was having a lot of trouble trying to figure out the deeper meaning of the stories. I was trying to understand what Boyle was implying in his stories. I started overthinking it, and I think that's what might have messed me up the most. I have also not written an analysis paper before,... more

Now that the Boyle paper is completed, I feel that a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Completing the Boyle paper is a good feeling, because it took me so long to write this paper. The hardest part about writing the paper was dragging out the information to meet the four page minimum. I pretty much covered all... more

For the Boyle paper, have you decided to do a compare/contrast or a theme paper? Which stories have you chosen? What about these stories do you plan to write about? What are you concluding the author is saying through these stories?
  • online discussion 10/21 - Tanika Reddon, Fri Oct 21, 2011 1:52pm
For the Boyle paper, I have decided to do compare/contrast because I feel that it will be easier to explain the stories as well as come to a conclusion about what the theme is. The two stories that I have chosen to write about is On For the Long Haul and Big Game. One of the main things Iíll discuss in my paper is the ... more

The Boyle paper has been a bit boring and kind of difficult to write. The reason Iíve had some difficulty writing it is because at first I had no idea what two stories to use since Modern love and Carnal Knowledge were omitted. So it took me about two days to think about what else could I write about and make a strong ... more

So far, I have to say that the Boyle stories are very different from anything I have read in the past. The are very interesting, and I never know what weird thing will happen next. What have been your impressions of the Boyle stories we've read so far? Which ones have you liked? Disliked? Why?
  • Online Assignment 6 - Brooke Starace, Fri Oct 14, 2011 12:15pm
The Boyle book, to me, represents a book of potluck or chance. The book is full of different stories in which you never know if youíre going to get a story with an interesting plot or dull, pointless one. My impression of the Boyle stories is that they are all strange in their own with and for the most part... more
