Hi Everyone, I don't know if you remember me, but I joined in on this discussion group back in April before my first THR (May 4). I was terrified and a lot of you were so kind and really helped me get through the surgery. My recovery was fantastic and I was back at the gym 12 wks later weight training. I just had my... more

33 and needing hip replacementJ, Sat Nov 7 8:28am
Hello I am 33 needing a hip replacement. I had an osteotomy when I was 27 and it did not work. I have pain in my hip, however, most of my pain is in my knee. Sleeping has become very difficult as evertime I move, I have sharp pains in my knee. Has anyone else experienced severe knee pain before having a hip... more

too young and scaredNala, Fri Nov 6 11:16am
I'm 32 and facing hip replacement on my right hip. As I've gotten older, my pain has increased. Met with a surgeon and he said I'm 3 cm shorter on my right than left side. I've been fortunate that although I'm in pain, I'm able to do active things. I'm running in a half marathon in 1 week and just did a dualathelon.... more

WELCOME TO TOTALLYHIP

Hi - I am new to the site. I am really excited that a site like this exists because it's hard to talk about it with family and friends when they don't fully understand. Here is my story: I was born with congenital hip dysplasia. At age 16 I had an osteotomy on my left hip. I then had 4 more surgeries to take out... more

Revision+Infection=DepressionVicki/Spudtown, ID, Tue Nov 3 12:55pm
Hi Everyone, well the 10/28 left revision went well.....until I get ready to be discharged. The blood test that morning "had a colony growing" in a petrie dish! In the grand scheme of things, this infection is more easily treatable than some I could've contacted, but the effort of healing that my body is going through ... more

I'm sorry if I misunderstood your post. I had spinal-epidurals with both hip surgeries. With the second I did have a headache afterwards but it was resolved fairly easily with an IV that I believe contained caffeine.

Thank you, everyone, for your replys, but I just wanted to know "what was the usual anesthesia for THR". I've had this sydrome for 30 years and I've had 4 major operations from my breast cancer and I've had about 3 different anesthesia.....I know I will be discussing this with my asesthesiologist, but that won't be... more

muscle pains 10 days post opSheriALS, Fri Oct 30 10:11pm
I am recovering quite well from my anterior approach 10 days ago. I notice more strength every day & more range of motion. As to be expected the muscles that I have not used for many years are rebelling against coming back to work. I am constantly massaging the muscles in my thigh and calf of the operated leg & these... more

Return to workBillie, Fri Oct 30 11:21am
Hi everyone, I wanted to thank all of you who responded to my message last week about my return to work and the negative comments from some of my co-workers. I decided to have a talk with my boss who was very supportive. I explained that even though I look the same, there are some things that I may not be able to do... more

WELCOME TO TOTALLYHIP

A friend told me about this wonderful website as my 82 year old mother faces bilateral hip replacement in mid-November. This is all new to me and of course I have a lot of concerns and need some help knowing what to expect and how to prepare to help her through this. Not sure, but at her age I expect her's will be... more

What type of anesthesia did some of you have?? I have malignant hyperthermia and some anesthesia is very dangerous for me. Do you recommend a spinal or epidural??? Do you have back problems after with this?? I certainly don't want that along with trying to re-coop from THR. Thanks KJ

My doctor says I will lose some mobility if I have the revision. Before I make the decision, I'd like an idea of how much and what kind of mobility loss is there? Thanks.

Animated Six Minute Film on CortisoneSarah , Wed Oct 28 8:03am
Hi Everyone, I just got back from the artists' colony where I worked for a month, and while there I made this little movie with a film guy from Brazil. It's illustrated with my watercolors; it's about getting a cortisone shot. I'm now working on putting together a longer film on THR. If you want to take a look, here... more

Hip RevisionBarb, Sat Oct 24 9:09am
I have just displaced for the 4th time and I know my doctor will want to do a revision now. Who has gone through this? How much is involved? What is the recovery time? Are there still the same hip precautions as before or does this eliminate them? My problem has always been bending over (a second of carelessness, 6... more
