Good-by, Brace!Hipnana, Mon Jan 5 6:43PM
Ding, dong, the brace is gone....I am so happy!! After 9 weeks, I can drive, take a shower, and graduate from the walker to the cane. The Doc says things are looking good, but still wants me to limit activity for a while. He does want me to go to PT starting in 3 weeks, but is going to monitor me closely so it's... more

7 Weeks Post-Op Bi-Lateral THR UpdateJohn D, Mon Jan 5 6:26PM
It's 7 weeks post-op tomorrow. Things could not be going better....I have gone from two crutches, to one crutch, to a cane, to no walking assistance needed, and am now working on proper gait. My issues I am sure are very minor and common amongst us hippies, that is, sore, tight muscles (quads, hamstrings, inner... more

Bike riding in back yardHector_tc, Mon Jan 5 4:58PM
Over the past month I have been exercising by riding my mountain bike in the back yard. I ride in a figure-8 pattern. The yard goes uphill from the house to the back of the lot. The grass provides a lot of rolling resistance to the tires, so between that and the hill there is a good amount of work done while riding. ... more

New posters; old IP'scarol from canada, Mon Jan 5 3:40PM
There have been several new posters here recently and new people with hip concerns are always more than welcome. That's what this site is for. The problem is that most of the new posters recently have been posting with different names, different stories, but with the same IP. Kathleen, who posted a back to work... more

My experienceTHR in CLE, Mon Jan 5 10:16AM
Hello from an ex-Totally Hip-ster. 9 years to the day since my right THR. I have not been on this site for years, but was a frequent visitor when experiencing all the issues about which everyone here is concerned; surgeon, material, recovery, back to work, complications, and on and on and on. I'm just back to say... more

ICEeaf, Sun Jan 4 8:43PM
I live in Iowa, and we just had a terrible ice storm. I really hate ice and worry about falling. I had THR four years ago but still am cautious about falling and hurting the hip. Do you think if a person did fall hard on the new hip that it would hurt it or cause it to dislocate?

I love you, tomorrow!Hipnana, Sun Jan 4 4:33PM
Tomorrow is only a day away! Finally, I get to cross out the last day of 62 since my surgery for my post-op appointment. Hopefully, I will get to ween off this hip brace. It's been a long journey, and I know I have a way to go yet, but it would be nice if I could start driving, and take a shower after 9 weeks! I... more

Just a quick poll: For those of us who have or, in my case will, returned to work, how long after surgery did you return?

5 months post op and not healedflowerfloosey, Sat Jan 3 11:24PM
I have a question...has anyone else had a problem with one small place on their incision not healing right? I have a small place that keeps opening up and has a lump under it. I showed it to my os a month ago and he said it wasn't a big deal and sometimes there was a stitch that didn't desolve. It bugs me as my... more

I had my right thr 6 years ago and my left one almost 2 years ago. As of today, my first one is hurting so bad on the side and in the front. The muscles on both are so weak in the front that I can't cough or sneeze without first bending forward as the pain is so bad. I have to lift them up with my hands to get them in ... more

Children?Crystal, Fri Jan 2 11:42AM
Has anyone on the board given birth after your hip replacement? My doctor went with an AML plastic on metal replacement instead of metal on metal in case I want to have a baby one day. I just turned 30 so it's not outside the realm of possibility yet. It's not quite a dream I want to give up on, but I do wonder if the ... more

Whadayagunnado? Just when we decide one year is officially up in smoke, another promises to be fresher, happier, better. I'll settle for saner. Here are a few of my goals --- Go green(er) --- Spend less cabbage, eat more lettuce. Use all saved cabbage to dance the tango in Argentina (or Paris.) Take back all the... more

Side of Beef (Quarter?)mangle, Tue Dec 30 9:18PM
I truly feel like I am a slab of meat in the regard of the local orthopoaedic profession. In 2004 I underwent a MIS 2 - failed because the acetabular unit "slipped". (WTH???) In 2006 I visited Rush for a revision. Carotid artery issues surfaced and the replacement was postponed. The surgeon who pioneered the MIS ... more

Trouble with Putting on SockSue, Tue Dec 30 10:22AM
Hi folks: It's been 16 weeks since my LTHR and I still can't quite get my sock on! I am still using the thing-a-ma-jig I brought home from the hospital. I try every morning to do it on my own but it's still an inch or so to go and I'm afraid to bend my leg over the other one. Anyone else with this issue? Prior to ... more
