..but basically Marx said it when he said 'the workers control the means of production.'

The wealth of society belongs to everyone, and everyone earns a fair share of it. It's economic democracy, in essence.

That's a pure idea of socialism. It's an economic ideal, IMO, not a political one. Some (Marx) have said it's an intermediate stage on the way to Communism, a perfect state with no government and absolute equality. But personally, I don't like that 'dictatorship of the proletariat' mechanism for getting us there. Dictatorships don't go away. Bad idea.

In a Western, capitalist context, Socialism involves using government regulation and taxation - under a democratic government - to control Capitalism, to share its proceeds out equitably, and to make sure everyone is provided for, whether it's a job, healthcare, education, old age care, etc.
