Still, I think it's really a matter of the mods' vision for the board. If they don't mind it becoming a de facto flame board (Zenboard, Mondo's board), then posts like she mentioned in the OP are not a problem. Hell, just a heavy focus on politics and a relatively hands-off mod policy turns most any board into a flame board (and ironically, I've had some of my best online political discussions on Zenboard, which is more a flame board than anything else). If any forum wants to avoid that sort of thing, it simply requires aggressive moderation. Anything less fails to arrest the descent.
