Eight people were shot to death in Chicago on Wednesday, the most homicides in one day in the city in 12 years, the Chicago Tribune reported.
In addition, an 11-year-old boy died in what is thought to have been an accidental shooting. Antwone Price was shot by a relative who was playing with a gun in their home, according to the newspaper.
Including Thursday, 12 people were killed in a 36-hour span, according to the Tribune. A total of 21 people were wounded over that period. None of the Wednesday shootings were connected, the police department said.
The bloodshed surpassed the 10 murders in Chicago on July 5, 2003, according to the paper.
