If the government could really do a better job, the private charities would not be in the business of trying to pick up the slack.

The government has a huge agenda ... yo just don't see it. Look at the way Obama screwed the GM bondholders, including teacher retirement programs, to the favor of the UAW.

Your "socialistic unemployment insurance" was courtesy of your employers ... employers who were forced to take it out of your hide in the first place. I would rather cut out the middlemen, who could be repairing our national infrastructure instead of sitting on their fat bureaucratic butts, and see the money go into 401K plans which unemployed people could tap in emergency situations.

You seem to want to impose obligations on others instead of letting them decide how charitable they want to be. I'm not sure that is a healthy thing.
