The President is there to serve the needs of the nation and all the people. He is accountable to the people. We elected a leader, not a divinely-appointed monarch.

The circumstances surrounding Obama's origins are unique ... we have never had a President with direct blood ties to and origins in other nations ... not just one other nation, but at least two, Kenya and Indonesia.

Most birth certificates show complete detail of birth, including date, time, name and address of parents, place of birth, including hospital, signature of attending physician, and signature of registrar.

Hawai'i chose to do otherwise, perhaps for reasons that I stated earlier. That being the case, it makes it all the more important for Obama to clear up the doubt by requisitioning a certified copy of his original long form birth certificate. He is not God, and he is not above the law or the people. If he doesn't clear it up, it will become a major issue in 2012 and will cost him his second term, which already appears to be in jeopardy.

In the meantime, the issue is precipitating both subliminal and conscious resistance to his other policies, and that is hurting his effectiveness. It's like "if we can't trust him to be forthright on simple matters which could be cleared up instantly, why should we trust him on other matters?".

Some folks can't deal with the situation and chalk it up to "racism", which is a cheap shot. In reality, we are much further down the road in terms of racial opportunity, equality, relations and respect than these myopic pundits can see.

I know that all of this may transcend your willingness to consider the validity thereof, but it is offered to you by a rather sane, sensible, educated, experienced and responsible person who would otherwise prefer to focus on the real issues.
