There are assholes who think they should own their wives and beat on them... but most MODERN religions and societies discourage this... Thus MOST such wingnuts living in those societies don't get to practice what they want to. And when they DO abuse their wives, there are legal reprecussions. But combine that same asshole with a primitive Islamic environment and what results is abused women with no recourse.
