There are so many things that people can do in a non-marriage relationship to even the playing field vis-a-vis government-subsidized "benefits" and "rights" associated with the license:

Life Insurance
Health insurance
Jointly-owned property
Trusts
Powers of attorney
Written agreements
Partnerships
Corporations

It's also time for non-married couples to be able to confer employer-paid insurance, Social Security and Pension survivor benefits to their named partner.

Time to get government out of our lives and put it in charge of doing only those things authorized by the Constitution.
