We sadly heard this moring that Ulrich Steinhilper (formerly of 3/JG 52) died last night in Stuttgard.

Ulrich Steinhilper was shot down on 27th October 1940 and his aircraft crashed to earth at Upstreet, Near Canterbury. His aircraft was recovered by the Museum in 1980 and the substantial remains of his Messerschmitt Bf 109E-4 are on show in the Lord Dowding Memorial Hangar.

Ulrich regularly visited the Museum during the 1980s and 1990s, and often attend signings etc at Biggin Hill. His three books 'Spitfire on my Tail', 'Ten Minutes to Buffalo' and 'Full Circle' are a must to all serious Battle of Britain enthusiasts.

Ulrich is also credited as the man who had the initial concept of Word Processing!

He will be sadly missed, but not forgotten.
