W/O A D Payne RIP
Wed Jan 5, 2011 11:54am

I regret to announce that Warrant Officer Alec Dawson Payne of 610 Squadron passed away on December 16th 2010.
He joined 610 Squadron on September 23rd 1940.
He was posted to 74 Squadron at Biggin Hill on December 3rd 1940.
On February 2nd 1941 he claimed a Bf109 over Boulogne.
In May 1941 he was seriously injured after crashing whilst taking off on a night patrol. As a consequence of injuries received he didn't fly operationally again. In August 1942 he received a flying category A2B which limited him to non operational flights below 20,000 feet.
I'm sure I speak for all of us when I send my sympathies to his family and friends.
