I am searching for any information about my G-Grandfather John Murphy. He was born about 1830 in Ireland. He married Catherine (Kate) about 1835 and had children Thomas, Patrick, Michael, Catherine (Katey), John A., Margaret, William, Ann, Bridget and Edward. In the 1870 US census they lived in Ashland Post Office, East Ward of Schuykill Borough, PA. His son, my Grandfather, John A. Murphy joined the US army on 08/04/1893 at 25 years of age in Buffalo, NY. He listed his birth place as Pottsville, PA. He married my Grandmother Rose Mary McCarty in Baltimore, MD. in 1895.

If they were in Ashland by 1860, any births around that time frame, would have been baptized at St. Joseph's in Ashland. The church was established before 1860. They should a a couple of them at... more
