Firbank is indeed North of Kendal a hamlet near Greyrigg. This Hoggarth family lived at Davy Bank farm/mill from the 1700s. Hoggarths still live in the vicinity. A James Hoggarth is recorded as a Corn merchant and Maltster.

I cannot actually see a connection with your Jon 1798ish -but my great great grandfather Thomas Hoggarth 1789 is the only Hoggarth birth there around the 1790s that I can establish. If your Jon is shown in the census as born in Firbank perhaps he was a brother.

Some time since I researched this line: I think my Thomas Hoggarth b 1789 had parents shown as James and Agnes H.
I do not have any other siblings identified. From various searches I wonder if this James was James Hoggarth b 1744 and Agnes Farrer of Mint House Skelmersgh...not far away.I have also found other Hoggarths with similar first names near Crook but they were Quakers....and they have separate birth records from which I have not made much sense! I also found an Edward Hoggarth at Davy Bank Firbank born 1724-married an Agnes Cowperthwaite.

Thomas b 1789 and his family bit of Brickwall for me!
