Hi Julie,
As it is 8 years since David ASQUITH first left a message and, as far as I know, he never made any further contact I don't think he will notice your message.

I've not myself looked further into the ancestry of William HOGARTH born about 1814 in Topenhow but it should be easy to get his marriage certificate which will give the name and occupation.

Freebmd can be used to check the indexes of the GRO certificates of Birth, Marriages and Deaths.

BMD certificates can be bought form the GRO for 9.25 (or 6 if you can order a PDF copy) at

So checking FreeBMD for the marriage I see:
Marriage Q2 1842 Whitehaven 25 174. William HOGARTH and Mary WOOF.

I checked the newspapers which are available with Findmypast (FMP) and found this in the Carlisle Patriot of Saturday 2 July 1842 - Marriages - At Whitehaven, on Saturday last, Mr William HOGARTH, flax-dresser, to Miss Mary WOOF, all of Whitehaven.

So that tells us they married 25 June 1842 but you still need to access the marriage certificate to find the father's of the couple.

Checking for Mary WOOF born about 1816 in FMP I see a baptism 10 Mar 1816 parish of Newlands in Cumberland of Mary WOOF father Thomas mother Elizabeth. That does not fit well with the birthplace of Mary in the census records being Harrington which is on the coast south of Workington.

Better match might be the Mary WOOF in the 1841 census Ho107/177/5 folio 10
Bacons Court, St Bees, Whitehaven
James THOMPSON 60 Mason Scotland
Mary THOMPSON 55 Wife of do (crossed out)
Elizabeth THOMPSON 15 Daughter (crossed out)
Mary WOOF 25 Do (crossed out)
Thos WOOF 4 Son (crossed out) Lancashire
Mary Jane WOOF 2 Daughter (crossed out)
Elizabeth WOOF 4 months Daughter (crossed out)

Apart from James and Thos I think they were probably all born in Cumberland and I'd guess that James is the stepfather of the WOOF children. If so then I would have expected a marriage of Mary WOOF to James THOMPSON shortly before the 1841 census but I don't see it.
