FMP has marriage transcription Eleanor WOOF 21 Oct 1841 at Workington to William RICE. Residence Workington. Brides father George WOOF, Grooms father Edward RICE. GRO index has marriage Q4 1841 Eleanor WOOF Cockermouth 25 99.

Carlisle Journal 30 Oct 1841 - Marriages -
At Workington, lately, Mr William RICE, mariner, of Wymondham, Norfolk, to Miss Eleanor WOOF, of Workington.

Whitehaven Advertiser 13 Oct 1840 mentions sale of four Sixty-fourths of the Brig RINGDOVE, of the port of Whitehaven, George WOOF, Master, Burthen per Register 178 Tons.

Cumberland Pacquet 24 March 1840 also had sale of four sixty fourths of the Brig Ringdove of Whitehaven master George WOOF.

Makes sense if Eleanor married a mariner that her father was also in that trade. Still no link to the Mary WOOF who married William HOGARTH.

1851 census
Quay, Workington
Eleanor STEWART Head Widow 72 Grocer Scotland
Eleanor RICE Neice Mar 36 CUL Workington
Edmond S do G, Nephew 8 Scholar CUL do [GRO index has Edmond Stewart RICE born Q1 1843]
Mary W. do G. Niece 5 do CUL do
Jane HOLLIDAY Servant 12 Housemaid CUL Clifton

I see that David ASQUITH has a tree on Ancestry where he has the father of Mary WOOF as George WOOF. I can't see however what source he has for that. He shows only Mary as a child of George.
He gives the parents of William HOGARTH as William HOGARTH (1788-1874) and Elizabeth RICHARDSON (1790-????)

1871 census for Bothel has William HOGARTH age 83 with a daughter age 49 called Ann HOGARTH and she is said to have been born in Torpenhow which matches where the William HOGARTH who married Mary WOOF was born. Torpenhow is just a mile or so West of Bothel.

Familysearch has baptism of William HOGARTH in Torpenhow 22 Jan 1815 father William HOGARTH mother Elizabeth.

I'm reminded that the 1851 census for William HOGARTH and Mary (WOOF) shows a sonn called Stewart age 2 so that makes it pretty sure that the Mary WOOF living with Eleanor STEWART in 1841 is the wife of William HOGARTH.
