Is there a glut of shovelware & garbage in the AppStore?
Absolutely.
As Steve Jobs himself says: "We have enough fart apps, thank you."
But apparently this hasn't stopped titans of the gaming industry from developing *primarily* for iOS. Giants like iD, Epic Games, vALVE & Electronic Arts all see the App Store as not only viable and deserving of thier precious development resource dollars, but they also see iOS as the *future* of gaming. The graphic capabilities of the iPad is comperable with XBOX360, believe it or not. Go to YouTube & search "Epic Citadel" & you'll see what I mean. Yes, what you are looking at IS ON AN IPAD. And this is only the 1st generation ....
Despite all the chaff, the wheat comes shining tbrough in the App Store by being featured by Apple, reviewed on key websites like TouchArcade.Com, IDG & WIRED and by plain old word-of-mouth. A masterpiece like the MDD Clone will certainly NOT get lost in the crowd. Just like all the recent Golden Age games are trumpeted so everyone knows they're there.
And what makes you think "being overwhelmed by shovelware" won't happen in the Android Marketplace? It will probably happen even moreso because the Android Marketplace *has* no rules!
Like I said before, if it's a money thing, *I* will pay the $100/year license fee.
