I can't say that the project would be finished in a realistic time, because of several reasons: - I have an exhausting job, that I didn't have when I was making the MDDClone-SDL. These days I don't seek just anything to program anymore, as I have enough of it at my work - I have other (and open source) project to finish, where I have full control of the licensing and design. In MDDClone-SDL I'm limited to closed source, and the design of the game is really antique. I can't make it better without spending too much of my precious life on it. Simone's project would be a better answer to these, although I could complain about the code design there as well (at least it looked this way in version 2). - I got pissed off that after buying Apple Mac and asking some person to test my release by giving me debug information, the only reply that I got was "I'm not touching the console!". I sold my Mac with a 50% loss and I'm not buying it anymore - on top of that, I've changed my interests. There's too much going on in the world now to ignore it - I got married
Simone and MDDClone Author: please accept my criticism, but when I was making my open source project that I've mentioned, before somebody experienced joined my project, he asked me to organize the code better. Only once I did it, the person committed many juicy changes, that make my project a top download and serves as the best entry in my CV (along MDDClone-SDL, but I can't share its code). More Object Oriented Programming please :) I must also admit, that I've learned it myself only after I gained a lot of private and commercial experience and read some books.
Since you mentioned a project that does not include Mercenary 2 and 3, I'm assuming you are talking about the MDDClone-SDL. If so: it's currently on hold because Enjo has other concerns. If not:... more
Criticism accepted. I should probably read some books on OOP, since I currently have no chance to learn it on the job. Do you have any title to suggest? The only books I have that mention OOP are the ... more
Yes, I agree, that school textbooks are crap. The guys who write them have no experience in real world, only in their Ivory Towers. It's also very apparent when you try to use a mathematical library... more
Thank you, I'll get at least one of those books (especially those about C++). And congratulations for your wedding! BTW, can you reveal what your open source project is?
No problem, Simone. I also share your observations: we can't learn much of this stuff at work. We have to do our jobs, plus just a little bit more. That project is called LaunchMFD. It's an essential ... more
