As far as I remember, the game data contains the vertices only, without any information about the relation between them. Read: there's no telling what polygons the vertices should form. It could be possible to infer it via some geometric algorithm though.

To create an editor for maybe one meaningful version of the game is a large overkill. But it would make sense to enable passing custom game data to the game engine through plugins interface (i.e. you'd have to code them instead of editing them).
