Medaea stood before the Mistress of Novices' desk, her tall form pulled upright into perfect posture, dark curls of her hair pulled back into a blue ribbon that wound around her head and bound the locks into place. "You wished to see me, Madeline Sedai?"

Today must have been one of her good days because her eyes were sharp and clear, not dulled by pain in the least. "Yes, Medaea. I see that you've experience success in some of your smaller lessons over the past month. What are your thoughts on it?"

Medaea withheld a grimace and tried not to think of the mind games that this woman was playing with her. "I think that the Novices have benefited from my guidance, Aes Sedai." Medaea replied carefully, keeping her words neutral and objective.

The woman stared at her with amusement sparkling her eyes. "Carefully worded as always Medaea. Well, it happens that I agree with you and so I’m going to ask you to take on a large, full size class to lead Novices through some exercises."

Keeping her features neutral, she merely raised a brow. "A full size class, Madeline Sedai? What would you like the lesson to contain?"

Madeline scribbled something on a piece of paper and set it aside before looking back to her. "You decide that, Medaea. I think you've come far enough in your training to make those determinations with responsibility."

Aha, it is a test! She thought, suppressing her smile. "Of course, Aes Sedai. I appreciate the trust in my judgement." Giving a curtsey, she left as the Mistress of Novices dismissed her and headed for the Library to figure out what to teach the Novices.

Medaea checked and rechecked her notice on the Lesson Board and then nodded in satisfaction as it read as it should. First Bell after Mid in the Southern Gardens. From what Beryan had explained to her, it was always warmer to the south, even during the summer, because of how the sun traveled around the world. She personally didn't care, but if it meant that they would get a pleasantly warm summer afternoon, then she would be where it was warmest. Seven years at the White Tower still hadn't acclimated her to the cooler seasons of the north; Mayene was warm year round and summers were cooled only by the tangy salty breezes that came in from the ocean. There were days she missed that smell, but it would come again soon if her schedule held true.

Aware that there were sometimes over-eager Novices, Medaea had eaten a very quick meal of cucumber salad tossed with vinegar, sugar and accented by some tender pieces of octopus. After polishing off her light meal, Medaea made her way down to the South Gardens to wait for the Novices to arrive. It wasn't her first lesson that she'd taught since being raised nearly two months ago, but it was the first one that was large enough to constitute either being somewhere in the open or taking up a classroom. Until now her lessons had been individualized on embracing or very simple manipulation of weaves. Madeline Sedai had come to her, however, and asked that she put together her own lesson plan to teach to the Novices, something of her own devising. Medaea suspected it was a test, like any other responsibility and had spent a full day researching different things to show the Novices.

The open grassy area in the South Gardens that she'd designated had been Warded so that Accepted, Trainees and idle Aes Sedai wouldn't wander in and require her to shuffle them out; the Mistress of Novices had seemed amused at the gesture but nodded her consent to do so. Releasing the ward, she stepped into the large square of lush grass and settled herself on one of the stools she's borrowed from a classroom. Nearby was a small pond rimmed by large stones, the surface still and glassy in the summer afternoon, rippling every so often as a fish came to surface for a morsel or just to blow a bubble. Just on the other side of the grass was a verdant and blooming rose garden that wafted their mingled fragrances to her even without a breeze.

She had chosen the spot because it represented, in an almost poetic fashion, the different aspects of the Powers—Earth for the garden, Water in the pond, Fire in the sun that shone down on her in the early afternoon, Air for the breeze that tugged gently at her dark hair, and Spirit for the serenity of the place she'd chosen. Fluffing her skirts along her long and slender frame, her blue-violet eyes searched the paths for any Novices who would arrive soon. She was somewhat excited to be teaching them something—for six years she'd been the pupil and now she was able to guide. The prestige involved and the slight power was enough to cause her lips to curve into a smile.

Glancing up, the first Novice arrived with a curtsey and offered her their name.
