Schyler had barely had time to gain control of herself when that annoying Accepted wanted them to move. Schyler sent an irritated glance over her shoulder to the older girl and followed her as the very last person in the long row of novices that started. She didn’t really want to be here after all. She didn’t want anything to do with the One Power. She just didn’t! Schyler wasn’t fit to be an Aes Sedai, she would have been the first one to admit that. There was still too much that cheered her in regular life. While becoming the wife of a farmer wouldn’t perhaps been enough to keep Schyler content for life, she would have loved the life of an inn-keeper. Yet after being stuck here in the White Tower she would have to cross out all her previous dreams and fantasies.

Despite all her stalling Schyler still had to follow and she almost smiled upon inhaling the heavy scent hanging in the air today. She knew what they were doing even before the Accepted said anything. Herbs. She had helped her mother and the other women in the traveling troupe gather, preserve and store herbs often enough. It was a work that suited her and one she enjoyed. It might even bring back some fond memories. Schyler smiled listening to the Accepted with half an ear as she wondered around smiling at the so familiar way of sorting the herbs.

Schyler chose a couple of bunches of St.-John’s wort to work with. Maybe it would even be good to preserve herbs. Maybe some could be used to heal people. Or even give them some mental security to help beat illnesses. Maybe the One Power could be bent and forced to do good for once. Schyler winced at the goose-bumps raising on her arms and back as the Accepted used the One Power. She could almost feel the surge of energy around her towards the Accepted. It most likely was only her imagination for the bigger part but yet it was an unpleasant feeling.

Schyler picked up a bunch of the herbs and raised it to her nose for a moment before sighing. This time pulling the One Power was easier. It was like charming a snake to come out so you could take some of it’s poison to create some antidote. This time she would be forcing the One Power to actually do good so Schyler felt a little bit better about using it. Water had always came easily to Schyler so she used mostly that using weaves of air only in between to spread the water better. The herbs seemed to enjoy the attention as well. Or maybe Schyler was once again creating illusions for herself to justify the use of the One Power. She still didn’t feel comfortable with it and she had promised herself to avoid using the One Power as little as possible. Yet as Schyler watched the effect she as having on these herbs… she almost felt good about the One Power. Now this was a first.
