Part III: Decisions

71.244.150.136 (XFF: 172.20.24.56)

Tira watched the trials dispassionately, though the dynamics of the family of the dishonored girl intrigued her. There seemed to be more going on behind the scenes than was being revealed. Though it was made clear to her when the girl brought up the man who her father wanted her to marry. It didn't matter whether the girl was willing or not, she didn't want to marry in an arranged marriage so she jumped on the first man she found that could possibly take her out of her situation. Tira held no pity for the girl however, if the young man truly loved her she would probably have a decent life, but if he didn't…Well, she would learn the consequences of hasty action.

When the proceedings concluded, the magistrate left with his aide to go into a private dining room, and Tira rose and motioned to her students to follow her in the same direction. Once everyone was seated, Tira turned to the magistrate.

"Magistrate Telin, thank you very much for allowing my novices to attend these trials and for being willing to hear their thoughts on the matters." He nodded, and Tira turned to her students. "Now, I would like each of you to tell us what you thought of the evidence presented in the trial you were assigned to. In the case of the stolen cows, did you think that Master Bowmer was justified in stealing the cows to pay for the pastureland he lost as a result of the sheep? Or should he have gone to Master Ludin and request payment? Master Ludin as well, do you think he was being truthful when he said he truly didn't know that the sheep had grazed in Master Bowmer's pastures?"

Next she addressed the students whose job it had been to watch the second trial. "In the case of the dishonored girl, we learned some interesting things. Should she be punished according to village custom and then made to marry the man her father has chosen? Or should she be allowed to marry the young man, and go away from her home. Also, do you think the young man should give any kind of compensation to the parents, or be entitled to receive any sort of dowry on the girl?"

"These are all legitimate questions that should be considered before the magistrate reaches his decisions. So, what do you all have to say?"

OOC: Ok folks, this is it, the last part. Once again I would like two strings for each trial, just so we can keep everyone straight. I want each of you to give your characters thoughts on what the outcome of the trial should be, who seemed the most truthful, that sort of thing. I'm really pleased with all the interesting evidence you guys came up with, if this is how you write as novices, I can't wait to see what you're like when you have Accepted! Good job so far, and I look forward to seeing your conclusions. You have till this Saturday to finish up. If you need an extension email me, if not, the credit list will go out on Saturday for those who have completed the lesson. It's been fun kids!
