Novice Channeling: The Artistry Continues!
Sat Jul 1, 2006 7:20am (XFF:

”You are excused, Accepted.” Moira’s nod was friendly, and Ara found herself smiling back at the newly raised Blue. “I hear you’ve received permission to take your class into the city for the day; that should attract a crowd.” They shared a short bout of laughter – novices were allowed into the City seldom enough that to have a lesson there would seem like a dream, since it allowed for at least a little more sense of freedom than the confines of the White Tower.

“Yes, Moira, I am hoping they will be interested.” Moira had, unlike many newly raised Aes Sedai, not held onto her newly earned title during their lesson, instead treating Ara nearly as an equal. It is strange, Ara pondered, how much easier it is to slip into casual conversation with a woman who does not yet have the ageless features of most Aes Sedai.

“Do you have anything in particular planned for them? It is a channelling lesson you will be teaching, yes?”

“Indeed. Well, as a matter of fact I am taking them to one of the orphanages downtown, you know The Three Bells, run by Mistress Rean?” Moira nodded. “She said that the kids there have been…unhappy for a while, it’s been a bit short of money there and so the children have had to do without even the most scant of toys and other amusement. And since it’s in the city it’s not so easy for them to find things with which to amuse themselves.”

“So what are you going to have them do?”

“Well, do you remember that gleeman competition I won when I was still in novice whites?” Moira smiled and nodded; she had been a novice back then as well, and was one of those who had asked Ara to teach them to juggle at a later point. “Well, that’s more or less what will be the core of this lesson. I intend to teach them how to make balls – solid balls, how to colour them and finally, how to juggle. When they’re ready – probably after a few hours, and I am going to let the children watch since watching people learn how to juggle is usually even more amusing than seeing the juggling themselves – I will take them to the large square next to that inn called ‘Ogier’s Grove’, and let them use their newfound skills to earn money for the orphanage so that they can buy materials to make toys for the children.”

“Sounds good, Aranisia. Let me know how it went!”

It was almost an hour later, and Aranisia Samin stood just in front of the sweeping stairs of the White Tower. Lunch had been a rather hurried affair, since Samira had a lesson she needed to prepare as well, but at least her belly was full and her energy restored.

With an offhand movement, she flung her long, darkblonde braid behind her back, where it reached down almost to her slender waist. Blue eyes were awake and shining, and her lips curved into a friendly smile that gave her otherwise quite normal face (at least she herself saw it as normal) an extra perk. Her clothing was that common for an Accepted; the banded whites folded themselves neatly at her feet.

The Accepted next to her, Markel, was considerably taller than Ara, even if she too was above average height. He was tanned, and if Ara had at all considered hooking up with someone younger than herself Markel might have made a good choice; he was handsome, in a rugged way.

When the bell had finished its tolling, Aranisia spoke.

“Welcome, novices, to this lesson in Channeling. As it said on the note, this lesson will take place in the City. As such, I need you to give me your names especially, so that I can write them down on this piece of parchment and let Madeline Sedai know where you are. In addition, I’d like you to give information about your country of origin, how long you have been in the Tower, and whether or not you have ever juggled before.”

She looked over the gathered crowd, pointing at the white-clad individual farthest to the left. “You can start.”

OOC: Ok, as you’ve hopefully understood from my post this lesson will take part in the City. Your lovely novices will be taught how to make balls that are solid enough to juggle with, a method of how to color said balls, and finally be given practise in how to manually (i.e. not with the Power since that would require dividing your flows, something that is hard even for Aes Sedai) juggle and show off your skills to an audience.

I’d like 300 words minimum, please, spelling and grammar checked. Include a description of your character in the main part of the post 

Any questions and/or comments, please email me!

Next part will be up Saturday in one week, i.e. 8th July.

And yes, this lesson takes place before Ara’s MRP ;) So you’re free to involve as many comments about pillowfriends with the still alive Samira as you wish.
