Accepted Merycla din Phaedray stared at herself in the small, bubbled mirror, barely able to recognize the face that she had been born with. No, that was not true. The face she recognized very well – it was the clothing she wore which looked strange. The garb of an Accepted in the White Tower.

It was a startling sight, so much white against her dark skin. The bands of color that slashed her dress – one for every Ajah – barely helped with the stark contrast. Yet, even if she could not understand the way these land-bound men and women dressed, she felt pride in wearing this particular dress. It meant she had learned much since coming to the White Tower, and knowledge was something that Mery had never dismissed lightly.

She was one of the Atha’an Miere, of course. The dark skin on her body and the intricate tattoos on her hand made that fact obvious, even to the seemingly ignorant. The sisters of this White Tower – the Aes Sedai -- had been very excited at her arrival. There were not many of the Atha’an Miere who came to the White Tower, after all.

Merycla supposed it might have been who she was that caused the Aes Sedai in this tower to ask her to do this thing. She suspected, though, that it was her love of teaching that had landed her the task. A mentor, she was now. And she even had the name of a new novice, a girl new to the White Tower.

Merycla had never been the sort of person to show fear of anything on her face, but for a moment the mirror reflected an expression that might have come close. Almost angrily, she smoothed her expression, smoothed her new dress, and turned away from the mirror. “A Windfinder would not be afraid!” She muttered fiercely, and thus braced, walked out of the nearly empty room that had become her home until she was raised to the shawl.

“You are Kaimon Drendi?” When she spoke, the girl in novice whites jumped, obviously startled, and whirled around, eyes wide. Merycla stood, arms folded beneath her breasts, and stared at the girl in silence. A long, long moment later, Kaimon dipped a small curtsy, stammering agreement with Merycla’s question.

“Good. I am Merycla din Phaedray, and I am to be your mentor.” Mery was met with silence. Was the girl afraid of her? No, it did not seem to be fear that was in her face, but something else. Curiosity? Even if there were already Atha’an Miere in the White Tower, this child could not have seen one up close.

“Do not be afraid, child.” She said, and almost bit her tongue, wishing she could call the words back. But it was too late now, and she was an Accepted. So, Mery went on to the next fact, one which would probably erase any thoughts of confusion, fear, or otherwise from Kaimon’s mind. “The Aes Sedai, they say you have not learned to embrace saidar?” She did not wait for the girl’s nod. “Well, today we shall be changing that. Come along.”

Hiya! Feel free to put them anywhere you like for the embracing lesson, and you can 'write for' Merycla in your post so long as it's reasonable. If you have any questions, feel free to send me an e-mail or contact me via AIM (breakingorange).
