Kamion let out a sigh of relief as she was told not to worry. Obviously, this was normal. The Accepted’s voice held a trace of pity, but her face remained as stern as ever. When she suggested taking a break, Kamion shook her head stubbornly-she wanted to keep trying. Seeing this, Merycla reminded her, “Remember that you must embrace the One Power. Only men, it seems, have to wrestle it to the ground. I was told, as a novice, that I must first surrender to saidar before it would come. So do not strain yourself in an attempt to grasp it. When it comes, simply let it flow over you like a soothing river, instead of trying to control it.”

Nodding, Kamion settled herself on her chair again, closed her eyes and began to concentrate. This time she forced all other thoughts from her mind and brought up her rosebud once again. This time it was on a long, delicate stem, with thorns protruding out at random places. The bud was still closed, but traces of delicate yellow peeked through. She traced over every detail of the rose carefully, and once she was satisfied that it was perfect, began drawing herself in again.

Kamion imagined a pale, morning sun, just rising in the east. She, as the rose, turned toward the sun to try and soak up it’s light. Slowly, ever so slowly, Kamion opened up the tender leaves that still surrounded the bud. Then she tentatively opened a petal at a time, and she let the light sink into her. She let it spread it until it reached her, and then she reached out to accept it. It filled her, and was all around her. The sensation…was incredible. She felt warm and happy, joyful and alive. Then, as suddenly as it had come, the light was gone, and try as she might, Kamion could not get it back.

Once again she opened her eyes with dismay. “I had it this time, I know I did!” she cried out, frustrated. She stared at the Accepted in front of her, and wondered if she had ever had this kind of trouble. It had come oh so briefly, and she didn’t know if it would come again for her.
