A Healer's Helping Hand

Gentry Caducean was alone in his quarters, simply going through his morning rituals, when the knocks came pounding against his door.

Placing the assortment of objects back into the oak cabinet–the incense burner, the flower petals, all of it–Gentry adjusted his pins, appearing every inch the composed Asha’man he was. It was not merely composure an Asha’man sought, however. He was hardened. He knew not laughter or tears. He was a bastion unto himself. Unsmiling, he opened the door, exuding this unto the world.

It was still dark, which hardly surprised him. It was dark yet because first light was still a good hour away or so, which made it seem odd that anyone would be bothering him. However, he recognized the Asha’man standing at his doorstep as Greer, who was as tall as any, though appeared quite cold enough to make up for his narrow shoulders. Certainly.

“We have little time, Gentry,” the other Asha’man said in haste, sparing introductions. “The Seanchan are making a move on Illian–yes, again. The M’Hael already has authorized a defence . . . all Tracks, all members. Yes, Soldiers and Dedicated, too. He chose your name specifically to lead the Healers. You will need to rally your Interns and Medics and report to the Traveling Yards. You will need to organize field medics and those to organize the medic tents.”

It was a lot of information to receive in such a short period of time. Young Lysander had chosen him? Well, it didn’t surprise him that the man knew who he was . . . it had been indirectly–very indirectly, likely–because of him that the man held title at all. He could not like such a man, one who had disbanded the old Conclave, and Gentry found it impossible to believe that Raul had gotten up and merely run away from the Black Tower. No, Lysander clearly had disposed of the fellow. Besides, Gentry had known for too long that he wanted a M’Hael from the Healers’ Track.

Then crafting the Healers’ gifts will be precisely what is needed, he thought, nodding. That would require this mission.

Not long after, once Greer had given him a thorough debriefing, Gentry found himself before the barracks of the Soldiers and Dedicated. The men and women came milling out of them appearing . . . confused, suffice to say. A whole queue of Asha’man stood waiting for them, with Gentry advocating for the Healers. It was confusing after that.

“Assassins!” called a voice, while another was summoning the Officers. In turn, each of the Asha’man was rapidly explaining the situation to members of their Track.

Once Gentry had summoned the Healers of the Soldiers and Dedicated into a cluster around him, he began explaining the situation to them. Many were taller and stockier than he was, for he only was of an average build, with a grey Shienaran topknot to hallmark his age. He told them of the Seanchan, of the stratagems that would be employed. “Today, you will have two things to worry about: the medic’s tent and the field Healing. You will likely find yourself performing duties for both. In the medic’s tent, wounded men and women will be rushed in right from the battlefield, and you will employ all skills to see them remedied. If you cannot Heal, you will use other provisions–bandages, herbs . . . it all will be made available to you. Now, we go.”

Once Gentry had led his brigade to the channeling yards, three Asha’man–two men and a woman–formed a link. It was a gateway they wove, and one impressively wide, too. Grassy expanses could be seen beyond. “We are in Illian,” he explained as they passed through. “The Seanchan are still far, far east. The Black Tower’s camp will be set up here, including the tents where you will be sleeping, and the medic’s tent. Start by setting it up . . . in a few hours, this place will be rushing like mad.”

OOC: Healers, your strings go here! Your objective is simple: throughout the three days of the battle’s tenure, you will be helping to remedy the Soldiers, Dedicated, and Asha’man brought here. You also will be rushing around the battlefield to either fix up those needing immediately attention or returning them on stretchers. Got it? *grins* You can roleplay with other recruits of your Track or with Asha’man, if you want to contact them. If you’d like me to step into your string and assist you with a post from Gentry’s perspective, just add an OOC with the magic keyword “Assist” in it and I’ll see how I can help. *grins* Good luck, have fun, and be as wildly creative as you want.
