Autumn breezes.

Once she’d managed to get over choking, Afailla could smile at the Dedicated and answer her questions with relative ease. “Yes, Dedicated Reese – quite enough.” That wasn’t exactly the truth, but she didn’t want to admit how lost she’d gotten, or that her stomach still rumbled angrily. And then the other woman began describing saidar in more detail, and Afailla listened aptly, now more interested than ever after her brief touch with it. The description of the “feel” of the elements was a bit confusing to her, but she accepted it anyways, figuring that she’d understand if she could ever hold saidar for more than half a breath.

”Now, I want you to begin again, picturing the flower bud in your mind.” Afailla did as she was told, once again closing her eyes. This time, she was able to mostly skip the relaxation stage and began almost immediately with the image of her bud. She went through the process again, picturing it in detail, then seeing it open to the Light . . .. The warmth flooded into her again, but with the feeling of elation at her success, she nearly lost it, and when she rushed to regain it, the Light winked out completely. With a sigh and not wanting to lose her temper (that apparently made it all but impossible for her to manage anything), she started again, determining this time that she would stay focused no matter what.

It took a few more tries, but eventually she had the Power back, and actually managed to start thinking about the river part How am I supposed to be a flower and a riverbank at the same time? before she lost her hold. Luckily, she had by this time pretty much figured out where she was going with this and how she should be going about it, and managed to regain her grip fairly quickly. And this time, as she concentrated harder, she managed to hold on long enough to realize that saidar was indeed made up of several different . . . undercurrents was the only way she could think of it. But when she reached out for the nearest one – she had no idea which it was – it shied away, and she lost it once again.

Afailla was starting to get a bit frustrated, but she managed (with a great deal of effort) to push it aside and focus once again. She took a deep breath, pictured the flower, the Light, and . . .. As she held the Power, simply held it, she examined it from a distance, and then something that Reese had said returned to her. ”All I want you to do is concentrate on making a tiny breeze. Just a puff of wind, enough to raise the dust on the ground.” With a deep breath, Afailla did as she’d been told. Think wind. Think breeze. Think how much cooler it’ll feel than this stifling hot . . .. Wind. Breeze. She thought, for just a moment, that she felt something, but for once, instead of breaking her concentration, it served only to steel her determination, and she dug deeper. Think wind. Breeze. Wind. This time, there was an unmistakable stirring in the air, strong enough to actually be called a breeze, and Afailla could feel it lifting her hair. She caught the slightest smell of . . . Autumn, was all she could think - a bit of a bite to the air, the smell of a weather change hinting just out of reach. However, when she opened her eyes to see, it died down. She didn’t lose her grip on the Power (for once), but the wind slowed considerably. With a frown, she kept her eyes open and focused on recreating the breeze. She had no idea if she were truly succeeding or if this were merely a coincidence, but she was all for thinking positively.

After a few more moments, the breeze returned, and Afailla grinned, just letting herself feel the Power, what it was doing, and how it felt within her as it created the breeze (she hoped). Feeling rather proud, she looked to Reese for approval. Surely the woman would at least be able to tell her if she were actually doing this, or if it were Mother Nature . . ..

OOC: Whoo-hoo! Fun. I do have one question, though - is she allowed to practice on her own (since they're supposed to use the Power to do everything at the BT anyway), or not yet?
