Reyna yawned, her jaw creaking with the early morning. She was half incoherent as she readied herself for the day. Putting all her things in order before leaving her small room. It was still early, but Reyna had a morning routine to complete before breakfast and lessons. It was these morning work-outs that kept her going throughout the day, though she could hardly fathom why, she was only doing more work. Stepping out into the chilly morning air was a refreshing wake up. Her eyes were open now and fully alert. With a small shake, she set about her morning.

Reyna was just swallowing the last bits of her speedy meal as she walked out onto the fields where her morning lesson was to be taking place. Today, she was going to learn basic sword. An endeavor entirely new to her and likely to make her look a fool as well. No matter she thought. A small grin popped into existence as she saw the Dedicated who was teaching the lesson. He was currently practicing forms, so he obviously would not see her but she smiled anyway. Reyna made herself part of the tiny congregation of other recruits. She was one of the first there.

As Reyna waited for more to return, she studied Zander and his fluid motions. How she wished she might be so graceful with the sword, but she knew it would not be so. Chances are she would not even know how to hold her sword properly. She had never been very fond of the weapon, but she thought it might be a useful skill to have while in the service of the Black Tower. Clasping her hands in front of her, she waited another few minutes until finally, Zander stopped his ‘dance’ and turned to face the class. There were a fair few present at the lesson as he spoke.

“Good morning to you brothers and sisters. My name is Dedicated Zander Kilgas, and it is my task to teach you a bit about the sword today. Some of you know me, and others do not, but I ask that today no one misbehaves. I do so hate punishing anyone,” he said with a sad shake of hid head for show, “now come forward all of you! Gather round and tell me your name and any experience you’ve had with any weapon, and I stress any weapon” he finished with a smile of white mischief and a wink for his students.

I see he is the same here as he was before. Reyna almost snickered out loud, but controlled herself. It would not do to come out like that in front of a class. It was one thing to talk to someone alone, and another to talk to them while they were supposed to be promoting their rank and you your own. Instead she stood erect, as she should and listened to Zander respectfully, not matter the thoughts in her mind.

Reyna decided to speak up first, as nobody else seemed to be volunteering themselves. “Good morning, Dedicated. Soldier Reyna a’Nesae reporting. I have only previous experience with knives, Dedicated.” The formality of her speech was only tainted by the tiniest hint of a smile at the end. She was sure Zander must have seen, though it was unclear whether anyone else had been paying attention.
