Soldier Shayla al'Cazor
Power Struggle
Thu Oct 19, 2006 15:16 (XFF:,

“You seem to have mastered Delving, but Delving is still only a leaf compared to the tree that is Healing,” said the Asha’man. “Far less complex, but an inherent part of it.” Shayla groaned inwardly; she was pretty good with Spirit weaves, but Delving was still rather difficult for her as its two non-Spirit elements were some of her weakest.

The Aes Sedai continued the Asha’man’s introduction. Healing uses Spirit, Air, and Water traditionally…and the three Heal everything…but Water is definitely not one of my strengths—how’m I supposed to make a decent Healing weave? Myrth Sedai was still talking. “The newer method, involving all four of the Five Powers or simply Spirit, Fire, and Earth, is specific.” Aaah…so, if that’s the case, then at least I’ll be somewhat good with the weave… Shayla was lost in her thoughts, at least until Myrth Sedai began to tell the recruits what they were doing.

My two strongest, not including Spirit, are Fire and Air…but, neither of those is mentioned as a Healing weave…will they still Heal? The Soldier’s confusion lasted only until the Aes Sedai demonstrated the weave—something as complex as Healing demanded Shayla’s full attention. Spirit and its two auxiliary elements were looped around and through each other intricately within a set border, eventually converging on a single point. Great Lord. Why did I ever decide to take this lesson? This weave is insanely complex, and I don’t even know if weaving it with my two strongest elements will create a proper Healing weave….At least get to practice first.

The Soldier embraced the Source, feeling the rush that came with it. She began to copy the Aes Sedai’s weave, attempting to loop Spirit, Fire, and Air. It was going well, at least in the beginning—but then the weave began to tangle, and Shayla was left with a mess of ‘colored’ threads. She stopped channeling and let the weave dissipate. Shayla embraced again and started to build another weave as the Soldier to her right was picked to Heal someone. Ignoring the boy as he moved off, she focused on finishing the weave properly. Shayla channeled the three same elements and tried looping them the same way that the Aes Sedai did. Finally!...I finally got it right…now I just have to wait until it’s my turn to try to Heal someone. She didn’t have to wait long—almost immediately after she let the weave go, the Aes Sedai asked to Heal someone.

It’s too late now to worry about my weave…I’ll just have to use it and see what happens, thought Shayla as she approached the cot. Unfortunately for her, though, the injured was a Dedicated--If I screw up, my mission here will be a failure…I’ll have essentially broken my cover…please let this work. Shayla embraced the Source, channeling Spirit, Air, and Fire into he complex shape of a Healing weave. Looking at the man on the cot, she shoved her weave into him, aiming for a bruise on his forehead. The man gasped, but whether it was from shock or pain, Shayla couldn’t tell. The bruise began to disappear, very slowly—It took the Soldier a short while to even notice. The Healing stopped not long after, with the bruise only partially healed. Oh well, at least I didn’t kill the Dedicated...
