Salruoth, it appeared, did not have any inquiry. Darius and Mikel, on the other hand, appeared as though they were ripe therewith. The black-clad men stated their questions clearly, assertively, and so Lysander had little choice but to respond in a similar manner.

Darius’s had been first, asking him about why the Power fought them so. Truly, this was more of a philosophical question than anything, but one worth addressing, he supposed. “Saidin fights us because such is its nature. The sky is blue. Saldaeans are aggressive. Saidin, if for no better reason than because it just is, is caustic. Fighting saidin is a matter of concentration, of dedication, of surefootedness. Just as you would struggle with your limbs to avoid being taken below the water’s surface by an undercurrent, you must struggle with your mind to combat saidin. The concept is difficult to grasp, perhaps, but it will come to you when you first touch the True Source. Trust me.”

Turning his attention to Mikel, Lysander continued. This Soldier wanted to know about weapons. Truly, weapons could be interpreted three ways: physical weapons, weapons of the Power, and human weapons–as each Asha’man was indeed a weapon unto himself. Nonetheless, Lysander made the assumption that the man was speaking of the first variety. “Your weapon training will be extensive. The most common weapons you will face in your disciplining include swords, polearms–encompassing spears and quarterstaffs, perhaps both, and sometimes others–daggers and knives, and bows, though such weapons as axes and even hand-to-hand may enter your training. By the time you are an Asha’man, you will likely have a basic competence with all weapons, and there will be one or two with which you specialize.”

The look of dawning comprehension suffused their faces, and Lysander knew it was time to continue. Having already instructed them in saidin and saidar, he was ready to proceed and edify them regarding seizing technique. For most, this would be one of the most frustrating aspects of training.

Lysander only smiled tepidly. “To succeed in the endeavour of seizing saidin, you must listen closely. Concentration, as I have previously said, is duly important. Do as I instruct you. It begins by closing your eyes to ensure that your mind is in a calm, open state. Identify your emotions, what you’re feeling. No man is a dry sea from which no feeling can be dredged. Anger? Impatience? Am I taking this too slowly for you? Whatever you’re feeling, focus that emotion into a flame. You’re burning that emotion away into that flame, and for every whit of feeling you use as kindle, that flame grows. As you do this, you may notice my voice growing distant. You may notice the world growing distant. This is the Void, also known as ko’di or the oneness. You begin to grow numb, as though corporeal sensation is something of another realm. Your physical feelings belong to another man. This is the pinnacle of human concentration. This is the first step to seizing saidin.”

He gave the Soldiers a chance to call upon the Void. It would take time, and though nobody had given any true physical telltale trait to say that they’d assumed ko’di, there was a calmness to the men’s countenances that had not been there before. Perhaps, however, this was only his eyes deceiving him.

“Once you’ve assumed the Void, and only then, will you see it. Hear it. It’s that light you see in the distance, that songlike, seductive light. Lunge for it. Reach for it. That Light, Soldiers, is saidin. Seize the One Power. You’ll know you have once you do.”

Oh, it could not be mistaken.

OOC: It’s time to seize! Your character likely won’t get it on his first try, but that’s okay–mistakes are fun. :) Once they do seize, though, they’re ready to go! Hoorah!

This lesson is still open, by the way, so if anyone new needs to join, they absolutely still can.
