Stepping through the Gateway, Carasal looks around, murmuring “This is the fabled Black Tower?” He expected a city, with great walls and high buildings, spiraling out around a central building. Though he did not truly expect a tower, he would not have been surprised to find one. With everything he’s seen over the last few days, he would not be surprised to see men flying and hurling mountains at one another. All in all, the place is rather sedate. If anything, the small farm he sees amazes him more than what he expected to see. These men who can melt stone with a thought live so simply; they are not so different from the rest of us after all, he thinks.

A man in a long, black coat seemed to appear from the air, “A new recruit? They come so frequently now. Well, off with you boy; the M’Hael is teaching a lesson in the West Classroom. Trust me; you do not want to be late.” The man waves Carasal off casually and turns to talk with the Asha’man who brought Carasal to the Tower.

Carasal did not stay to listen; after glancing toward the sun for direction, he rushes off the find the classroom. When he arrives, he just barely hears the introduction of Mikel Ayellfin O’Cionaoith, and he does not really know what to say. He begins with the salute he saw given between the ranks of Asha’man who found him. “I am Carasal Kardos, of Cairhein,” he says in a clear, crisp voice. “I have never touched the Source myself, though I have felt something when others did. Mostly, I find myself relying on these more than anything these days. The countryside is a very inhospitable place.” He emphasizes the short swords hanging from each hip by gripping the hilts until his fingers ache. He is not a tall man, even by Cairhein standards, and right now he feels incredibly intimidated. He shrugs and takes a seat near the door, almost as if he is unsure of where he belongs.
