He breathed heavily as he ran. The grass was soft under his bare feet, slightly dewy and lushly green. His black attire moved with him, slightly coarse but not enough to be distracting. Especially not distracting, as he was running in the Void. It had been a long time since he had run through this exercise, and it showed. Fatigue ran cracks across the dome of mental concentration, outshined only by the light of Saidin that seemed to hover omnipresently over his shoulder.

The clouds above stirred, and a ray of light beamed down and lit the field with its brilliance. It also illuminated another black-clad figure running torward him. He attempted to stop, but slid on the dewed grass and lay on the grass, unmoving. Darius ran up to him to see if he was all right.

“Are you okay? That was some fall.” Darius didn’t recognize him. Maybe he was new? The pure black collar corroborated his inference, and he stuck out his hand to pull him up. He deactivated the void so that he wouldn’t sound like some automaton at best, a mindless drone at worst. He doubted he would ever be anyone’s mindless drone.

The soldier inspected it dubiously, then finally grabbed it. Balancing carefully, he said, rather curtly, “Slippery out here. I was heading down to improvised weaponry and I am going to be late if I don’t hurry. Got to go.”

Improvised weaponry? Might learn a few tricks and traps there. Perhaps I should give it a visit - this spot in my period is blank anyways. Besides, I can run there and still make it if I run fast.

The soldier hurried off, and Darius grinned as he saw the grass stains and the big wet spot on his back. After a moment, he followed. He swiftly overtook the soldier, being a fast runner. He re-assumed the void, flame burning away his exhaustion and replacing it with nothingness. The clarity of nothing was infinite.
