Forgiveness & The Original Feminist

I think that first of all, we have to look at the conditions of that time, about two thousand years ago. Men could marry and divorce on a whim, whereas women could not and were considered unimportant, to say the least. I think Jesus was basically telling men to behave like real men, not jerks.

In the New Testament, Jesus taught the good news of forgiveness, mercy, loving-kindness, and the liberation of women. Yes, Jesus is the original feminist! There are plenty of stories in the New Testament where Jesus treated women with great respect and equality, actually... putting women higher than men in many cases. There are great books and articles about "Jesus and women" and his excellent views about women. An example is the adulteress who was taken to be stoned to death. The people said that it was the law that she should be killed for her sin. Jesus said, let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone. One by one, starting with the eldest, they all dropped the stones and left. When she was left alone with Jesus, he asked her, where are they, has no one condemned you? No one, sir, she replied. He said, neither do I, go and sin no more.

The greatest sign that Jesus actually preferred women to men as humans is that he appeared to women first upon his resurrection. Of course, even then, the men did not believe the women, but Jesus had 100% faith in them, and was trying to show men the way by upholding women in so many different ways during his 3 year ministry. Unfortunately, men didn't get it then, and they still don't get it now. Even today, women are in the same state as 2000 years ago in many places of the world. There is no true equality - in the sense of human value - anywhere. The fact that this is still happening in this day and age to women, who are at least half of the worldwide population, is an absolutely tragic conundrum. If it were the other way around, there would be a worldwide revolution.

Thank you for writing and best wishes.
