Fighting for survival

In quick succession, three blows landed in his midriff, knocking him off his feet, to tumble to the ground. Tain lay on his back, staring up at the clear blue sky, trying and failing to pull air into his deflated lungs. Ever since Faoelin, the Arafellin Sei’Tar, had started overseeing his off peek training, he had become accustomed to lying on his back, dazed and hurt. She was a lot shorter than him, surprisingly strong for her build and extremely well trained. Taking a shuddering breath, Tain pushed himself up to his elbows, wincing as his ribs twinged painfully.

“Lying down Tain?” Faoelin laughed, dropping lightly to the ground, from atop the raised platform that was used to train balance. “Always knew you were lazy!” she laughed, walking slowly over to her pack and picking up the waterskin she had left atop it.

“Ha bloody ha!” Tain shook his head and rubbed his ribs carefully, that fall was going to leave a bruise.

“Oh lighten up. If you don’t want me to beat you, go and take the bloody Hand to Hand lesson that Enriana Gaidar is teaching today. If you hurry you will get there!” she smiled and threw the waterskin at him.

“Think I might do that,” Tain said, between mouthfuls of cool, refreshing water. “It’ll be fun to beat you around for a change!”

“Ha! You wish squirt, now go, before you are late!” Faoelin smiled at him and turned to leave, collecting up her pack and trotting out of the yard, without looking back.

“Light, women are confusing!” Tain laughed, pushing himself to his feet and stretching languidly, before gathering up his own gear and making for the Notice Board. “I will beat her!” he vowed, smiling to himself.

Tain had just enough time to wash and change, before he had hurried to the hall, where the class was to take place. Upon entering, he took a quick, calculating look around, before choosing a cushion and seating himself on it.

The teacher today was not Enriana Gaidar, but a Sei’Tar by the name of Lyone. She immediately began into the lesson and Tain suspected that she was not one to wait around. He was surprised to find that the first part of their lesson was meditation. Light, such a simple concept as falling asleep, was used to teach weaponry.

Well, if I gotta do it, I gotta do it! shifting till he found a comfortable spot, he closed his eyes.

Closing his eyes had bathed Tain in the darkness he knew so well. Feeling instantly calmer, he slowly began to count.

One His mind was awash with darkness, cool, pressing darkness.

Five He found himself slowly floating toward unconsciousness.

Ten A tickling sensation behind his sinuses made him blink in surprise. What had that been?

Fifteen The same tickling, but stronger. Light, not now!

Eighteen It was certain now, he was about to sneeze. Gotta hold out!

Ninteen No, it was over! Gotta Tain’s eyes snapped open and he stared around quickly. He had to sneeze badly, but couldn’t disturb the class. Standing, he grabbed his cushion and jammed it over his face, just before he blew. Phew! Thank god that’s over!” Tain thought, sitting back on the mat, without a cushion.

Closing his eyes, he began to loosen every muscle in his body, till he felt completely at ease. When he was finished, he opened his eyes and glanced around, he was no where near the first finished and the Sei’Tar seemed to be waiting on everyone to start.

Bring on the fun! Tain thought with a smirk.

OOC: Hand to Hand rocks. I loved my last Hand to Hand lesson, It was with Hannah’s Rysor Darin, Head Gaidin at that time! That was fun, this will probably be better!
