The Art of Remembering Lessons

Arin carefully folded the letter from her family and set it on her dresser. Apparently, some plans for the marriage of her oldest sister, Shenalle, had finally been set in motion – quite past time, too, her mother had said. Arin was, at this moment, glad that she was not at home; she would have a difficult time biting back various remarks about just what had made Shenalle unsuitable for marriage up until this point in time. Her sister's temperament had improved enormously since their brother's death. It had been a terrible event, but it had been the shock that Shenalle needed to realize that world did not and should not revolve around her.

Arin shuddered to think whom she might have been paired off with, had she not been whisked away to the Tower at the discovery that she could channel. It was quite fortunate in many ways that she had inherited this particular thing from her mother, even if she had practically none of her mother's other characteristics.

Now, there had been something else… something she needed to do… ah! She recalled what it was now. There was a lesson today in falconry, taught by… Demetri Sedai, if she remembered correctly. Arin had thought about it for a bit and decided that it might be worth attending. She had a fondness for animals, and falconry was one of those things that she had always had a passing interest in that she had never really pursued. That was one of the nice things about being at the White Tower – she could learn so many things that she would have previously had no exposure to.

She made her way down to the mews, not in any particular hurry, for once. Her mind was preoccupied with other things, at the moment. Her thoughts had been terribly scattered lately; in fact, it was near miraculous that she had remembered this particular lesson. Being Accepted, she had more time to study on her own, but those lessons that she did still have teachers for did require that she be on time.

Arriving at where the lesson was to take place, she noticed that there were several others already there. That was good – she disliked being either the first or the last to arrive. Mostly, she disliked having attention drawn to her in any way. A big class was another advantage, in that way. It was more likely that she could just blend in and absorb the information quietly.

The Aes Sedai at the front introduced herself as Demetri Sedai of the Green Ajah. Ah, so I did remember correctly, Arin thought, smiling slightly. Demetri Sedai explained what they were to do, and then motioned toward a table piled with heavy leather gloves, saying, "If you would, please tell me your name and what interests you about falconry and then come up and get a glove."

Arin waited for her turn to come, then said, speaking loudly enough so that she could be heard, but no louder, "I am Accepted Arin Alistaire. I've always been somewhat interested in falconry – I often saw people working with the birds but never got to myself. I also enjoy working with animals. I figure it would be something interesting to try."

She walked up to the table and picked up a glove, examining it on her way back to the place where she had been standing. It seemed quite sturdy – hopefully, good protection against any talons that might come near her arm.

OOC: I've decided to actually get Arin back into some lessons XD This seems like something she'd enjoy. And hopefully I can get credit for it... I'm still a little slow as far as the new requirements are concerned.
