If you can dodge a sword, you can dodge a ball

Mornings had become routine since Sarin Cordana had come to the White Tower. Wake up before sunrise, get in a jog around the grounds and maybe break a sweat before breakfast, that is, if he had the chance to have breakfast or any meal for that matter. Then it was off to the training grounds to be hit by some bloody SeiíTar and quite possibly a Gaidin or two until you became to exhausted to stand, and you fell into your cot and passed out until the next morning where you started again.

The morning jog had just ended, and as the bell rung Sarin came into the grounds at a slow trot. He had not broken a sweat that morning, but it was a small warm-up for the lesson ahead and he felt prepared enough to take on Trolloc with his bare-hands, wellÖmaybe not that prepared.

Now, Sarin had been hit before while training, and even bruised, but when these people hit you, you expected it to be with some sort of a weapon or quite possibly fists. Sarin had stopped in on this peculiar sword lesson just in time to hear the teacher say, ďÖfull attention and efforts in this lesson make no mistake that Jield will know, and he'll be even more unhappy that I will be."

He grunted an un-believing laugh at the thought of the teachers who would rather scare the students into learning then actually trying to get them interested. He let out a sigh as the teacher pulled a leather-ball out, although he did suppose all authority figures goal was to at one point be feared by someone.

The game was explained and Sarin watched with his eyebrow curiously raised as the teacher picked out his target and hit the poor lad in his un-sleeved arm. The sound of the ball hitting him was almost as loud as the yelp the man let out as he furiously rubbed at his arm.

"Oh, yeah, and you're it!"

Instinctively Sarin went into a crouch, hoping the trainee was not about to pick him to throw that bloody thing at. He did not feel like a bruise that day simply because he was struck by a leather ball, if he was going to be bruised, it had damn well better be from a practice-lathe.

The trainee eyed the others, trying to pick out the easiest target to strike with his newly found weapon. His eyes fell on Sarin as he shuffled to get out of the way; it oddly enough seemed to do the trick as he eyed another instantly. Sarin began to shake his head in disbelief at the odd game, he wasnít here to play some game, he was here to learn about the sword and how to use it at his advantage.

But perhaps this could be used; perhaps if one could dodge a leather-ball that was thrown at you at anytime, one could dodge a sword strike that could be just as random. He smirked, the small game finally settling in his mind as fitting for such a lesson. He edged his way behind the man, trying to keep quiet so as not to draw his attention. He crouched behind him, and watched him idly as he tried to make the decision of who would be rubbing their arms next in pain from being struck.
