Guardian Homes and Prices

The use of guardian homes allows breeders to breed in a humane way without the use of a kennel. Dogs are assigned a permanent family to live their lives with from puppyhood through the end of their life. This is the alternative to breeders retiring a dog at the age of four or five years old and then rehoming them. Guardian dogs live great lives as someone's pet, obedience trained, sleeping on someone's bed, going on vacations... The guardian dog usually sees the breeder routinely, they are familiar with the breeder from puppyhood and associate them with all things good. I have dogs who get so incredibly excited when they come to visit us.

Raising puppies is labor intensive. Raising them right is, providing a socially rich environment, early neurological handling, scent exploration, potty training, crate training, socializing them with multiple textures, environments and surfaces takes a lot of work. Puppies spend 3000 hours with their breeder before going home. The cost of care and time is not inexpensive.

I wish you the very best in your search for a puppy~ I hope this helps shed some light on your concerns with the use of guardian homes and cost.

All that may be the case, but I will respectfully disagree on the practice, in theory and morally. Neither do I believe dogs should be bred and sold when done. There certainly are breeders who do... more
