For my 50K it should be pointed out that there is something which is unknown regarding TLC and most overall theories are incorrect because of that fact.
A very likely scenario is that Elisabeth accidentally(?) killed Charlie and the family felt better covering it up than turning her in - she was very unhealthy.
I think Lindbergh faked a kidnapping with the help of Hauptmann who was recruited by Donovan and Thayer. That would give a reason for Donovan's involvement (of which there was some) and the construction of the ladder by Hauptmann.
It seems Gow would have been unnecessary on Tuesday unless they felt they needed her for the body pass-off out the window. If Hauptmann thought he was getting a live baby and it turned out dead he couldn't do much about it could he? Not only that, but the world would blame him for the death, so he'd keep his mouth shut.
Hauptmann went on to handle and hide the body and extort $ 50K from Cal so Charles didn't mind Richard's eventual conviction.
The true facts would be known to only a few, and, as Anne would write about the crime to her Mother, "it was an accident" which is the way the family was thinking of it.
