Sue for Bob

Typing is difficult now, but I will give it a try.

Lindbergh might have been a mass of contradictions because that's how the media chose to portray him. He used slang from the 30s like "heck" which reflects a provincial background of a person of that time, uniniated in the ways of the world.

Maybe he wasn't really that complicated?

I think he didn't know how to handle the over exposure from the media.

Too much, too soon. Then you resent being overexposed like their flashbulbs.

From what I've gathered Anne Lindbergh was a real prize to be won!

A book on JFK and his friend LEM have a (famous?) quote by our ex-president Kennedy. In essence, Kennedy said Anne Lindbergh was pretty as hell but took a rotten picture. That's pretty close to the actual quote. The same quote appears in Dorothy Hermann's book.

So like a lot of things, it's what the world sees and may not be actuality.

I've read time and again that Hauptmann had no "personality,"
whatever the hell that's suppose to mean.

So what if the case WAS that he had no personality according to the world's standards?

So what.

It's part of accepting people the way they are.

Should Charles Lindbergh and Roger Maris be forced to tap dance for us?

Might have to continue this in another post.

You're entirely right that Lindy didn't know how to handle the media, Sue. But I'd suggest that if he had taken off from Pittsburgh or Baltimore instead of Long Island in May 1927, his life would... more

Did you bring up this idea that the New York media might have been responsible for the baby's death in your book, The Lindbergh Syndrome? You may be on to something when you say the baby may have... more

I do think New York is at once resented and envied, Sue. I believe people consider it as a municipal standard bearer because New York considers itself a standard media, finance, theater,... more
