I'm fond of auto accidents? I have no idea what you're talking about. But I'm used to your snide comments by now, so I'll let it go.

If your reference to Nungesser pertains to the three expeditions I went on with TIGHAR, searching for L'Oiseau Blanc in Maine, there was nothing illogical about those ventures. The search area was directly in the plane's presumed flight bath, and a man named Harold Vining, who had heard a plane go directly over his house, flying very low, in 1927, was still living there in 1987 and told Ric Gillespie his story.

For those in the forum unfamiliar with L'Oiseau Blanc, it was a French bi-plane competing with Lindy for the Orteig Prize in 1927. The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery (TIGHAR), led by Ric Gillespie, searched the Maine woods for the plane throughout the 1980s (Operating Midnight Ghost). After finally giving up ""the ghost, Ric took the advice of yours truly and others and switched his attention to Amelia Earhart's fate. He found evidence, I believe conclusive, that she perished after landing on Nikamoruru Atoll in the remote Pacific.

Earhart used to hang out about 5 miles from here, at the L.I. Aviation Country Club, as did Lindy. He taught his wife to fly there, too. I just succeeded in convincing the Town of Hempstead to erect... more
