evolution, creationism, and the resurrection

Don't know, Sue. I'd presume that someone made the error a long time ago, and it became "history" through (erroneous) repetition.

Mencken's reference to the resurrection had to do with the fact that the Monkey Trial (Darrow vs. Bryan) was a courtroom fight between evolution (Darrow's client, John Scopes, was tried for the "sin" of teaching evolution in science class) and creationism (Bryan appeared for the prosecution). Ergo sum, the religious fight was the greatest story since Jesus rose from the dead. Mencken was being sarcastic, of course.

Why then has that Mencken quote always been attributed to the Lindbergh case?
