All I remember about handwriting is that if one's script slants to the right, one is an optimist (the reverse for a pessimist), and if one's capital letters are especially large relative to one's lower-case letters, one is egotistical. That's about it.

But let's assume Trendily was a scientific outlier, and further let's concede that Hauptmann wrote the ransom notes. After all, that's what the jury assumed. So why argue this point in 2018 A.D.?

If Hauptmann wrote the ransom notes, does this mean he was Cemetery John? Does this prove he was in Hopewell, NJ on the night of the kidnapping? Does this make the testimony of Millard Whited (whose own family didn't trust him), and Amandus Hochmuth (effectively, a blind man) more credible than the witnesses who placed Hauptmann in the Bronx on that night? It most certainly doesn't. So maybe the forum should begin searching for the rest of the kidnap gang, and stop obsessing over Reilly's defense witnesses. Isn't that reasonable?

I went looking for a legendary, landmark, seminal text on forensic document examination written by John M. Trendley. There was nothing to find. Here was a man that was contrary in his handwriting... more

Albert S. Osborn did not agree with John Trendley. Saying so does not make it so. You bet it's fangs and claws with John Trendley. Someone like him is very dangerous to the legal profession. This is... more

Well, according to the report I quoted above, the Osborns did not believe Hauptmann was the writer. That agrees with Trendley's position. Therefore, saying its not true doesn't make that true. I only ... more
