You're splitting hairs here as it pertains to the bottom line, Michael. Does "Guilty as hell" imply to you that Hauptmann was believed to be a Lone Wolf?

Most people would probably consider themselves "guilty as hell" if they provided the gun, knowing full well what it was going to be used for, delivered it, and then waited for news of the hit, but didn't actually pull the trigger.

It's entirely understandable that Fisher would have been interested in knowing after the fact, who else other than Hauptmann was involved. You seem to be allowing your personal bias which I believe tends to view others as being solidly entrenched in either an Innocent Hauptmann or Lone Wolf camp, to sway your argument here.
