Michael, plans change when their weaknesses are realized, and within the planner's buildup to the ransom exchange, this is what appears to have happened. CJ was a very shrewd negotiator.

Ransom note 8 provides no evidence at all that a directional note would be left in that "sertain place," as you assert. You appear to be drawing a personal conclusion here that is unsupported by the actual physical evidence. Again, the kidnapper tells Condon in the very same note that "After 8 houers you gete the adr;" so clearly there is no indication here of a directional note expected to be forthcoming at St. Raymond's.

Look also at the note that CJ left for Condon, on the step of Bergen Greenhouses. As in almost all of the other ransom related notes, it contains the telltale punched-hole symbol. The Boad Nelly note does not contain the punched hole symbol. This is a further indication it was written in response to Condon's demand for a "receipt" which up to that point had not been indicated by CJ. I'd say there's a very good chance CJ wasn't carrying around his punched-hole symbol kit on this particular evening.

Finally, the Boad Nelly note is clearly written on a smaller sheet of paper. If it had been written ahead of time, would you not expect it to have been written on a sheet of the same dimensions seen within the other ransom notes?

I'd be happy to talk about other subjects, ie. whether or not a lookout was involved, but I really consider that angle more distraction to what could become valuable dialogue on a very important case subject. It's a pretty tangled web we're into right now and there's lots more to untangle, but I'd suggest we try and stay on point here regarding the Boad Nelly note.

Michael, would it be possible to determine if the Boad Nelly note was written on the same type of paper as the rest of the ransom notes?

Yes. By using the same method of comparison used to analyze the Nursery note and the March 4 ransom note.

Do you know if the Boad Nelly note was written on the same writing paper (carried by F.W. Woolworth's) as the rest of the notes? When all is said and done, it seems feasible that Hauptmann could have ... more

I haven't compared the Boad Nelly note the to directional note left near the Bergen Greenhouse. This comparison would provide a quick answer. They did find the same kind of stationery in Hauptmann's... more

Michael, over the years, Haring's book is the one I've used to determine some of the dimensions within the ransom notes, ie. distance between punched holes and width / height. With most of the notes, ... more
