your web site states "died unknown," James Spencer Van Cleef died in 1901 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. An avid fly fisherman and early conservationist I have written extensively about Mr. Van Cleef in two books; The Beaverkill (1996) and Trout Fishing in the Catskills (2007).
