One other thought crossed my mind--I do like the idea of Royal Dano in a Leone Western. I would have liked to have seen Royal in FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE as one of El Indio's crew members. Think about Klaus Kinski as Hunchback; I think Royal could have played a villain in the same vein. Alanna, have you ever seen Gary Cooper in 1958's MAN OF THE WEST? Coop plays an old gunslinger trying to evade his past, but he is forced into a showdown with a crew of villains including Jack Lord, Robert J. Wilke (one more LVC connection!), and Royal himself. Royal plays a mute gunman named Trout. I'm sure you remember how menacing Lee was as Jack Colby in HIGH NOON--this without saying a word. Royal played a menacing gunman in MOTW, but instead of being outright physically intimidating, as Lee was, he is very unnerving and creepy, especially with those blue eyes of his. Check it out if you haven't seen it.

Then be sure to check it out--it's one of Coop's best roles, and aside from Royal, the great Robert J. Wilke plays an LVC-esque heavy, especially in the final showdown. You won't be disappointed.... more
