Also during another film Van Cleef made in 1955 called "Seven Angry Men" which starred Raymond Massey, Debra Paget, Jeffrey Hunter and James Best. Best relates a tale in later years for an interview article with Psychotronic Video fanzine about when he actually shot Lee Van Cleef in the chest on this particular film. It seems while shooting a scene Best's character was being advanced upon by Van Cleef's character, in the script he was to shoot him with his gun, bam he did just that !
After the scene was over, Van Cleef sauntered over to him and quipped, "You're a good shot, Best. You hit me right in the heart !" Best replied something to the effect as to how did he know they'd been using blanks. It seems though, sometimes when using full black loads, those waxed plugs will go like real bullets for quite a ways. Van Cleef then showed him the burn holes in his front coat near his heart and Best then understood.
