I remember reading
Sat Feb 3, 2018 6:50pm

years ago that Leone offered Fist Full of Dynamite to Eli Wallach. Wallach accepted but the money men on the picture insisted the role go to Rod Steiger. So Leone had to call Eli and inform him and Eli was furious because he got out of another project to work with Leone who then decided not to direct the film but Steiger & Coburn wanted out if Sergio. didn't direct.

While I still can't find any reputable Sources (I know fans often know their stuff, but if they don't actually note where they got their info, then it's just hearsay)... ...I did, however, find a... more

I didn't mention this as it was so negative but I better. When Eli was told by Leone the part had gone to Rod Steiger, Eli said he was furious and told Sergio he had gotten out of another job so he... more

the funny thing was Lee said he couldn't remember why he turned down the role in Once Upon A Time. Then added possibly he didn't like the way it was written. I wondered if he may have wanted to avoid ... more

I remember that interview very well--the Cox interview from May 1978. I agree that Lee probably wanted to avoid reverting back to the minor supporting parts he'd been doing since he started in the... more

If Leone had gotten Bob Wilke and Sheb Wooley instead of Jack Elam and Woody Strode, I think Lee would have done it. Either Leone lied about offering it to Clint, Eli & Lee or it was a second offer... more

But to me likely he was didn't want to say the part was too small. It's reasonable to guess it was that part because Lee was in the High Noon scene. Lee did say in the interview he would work for... more
